A fundraiser is being held this Friday in Rainy River for four local curlers who are heading to a national championship after winning the Northern Ontario Firefighters Playdowns in Red Lake last month.
The Tim Nordin rink, comprised of Nordin at skip, Dale Morrison-third, Dave Seguin-second and Dale Ossachuk-lead, represented both Rainy River and Dawson Volunteer Fire Depts.
The fundraiser will be held at the Rainy River Curling Club to help the curlers defray the cost of going plus lost work time/income. It is estimated that each member of the team will have to shell out at least $1,000.
A Meet and Greet will be held at the curling club beginning at 7 p.m. and all are welcome. There will be a $2 entry fee and a huge penny table with all proceeds going to the Nordin rink.
Fundraiser organizer Debbie Armstrong said, “This is like the Brier of firefighter curling. Let’s all come out and support the men!”
The National Firefighter Championships will be held in Thunder Bay from March 23-April 1st and Nordin’s team will represent Northern Ontario there.
