LoW council donates $3,500 to CT scanner

The Lake of the Woods Township Council held a Public Meeting on March 6 at Bergland to consider the engineer’s report on the Stintzi drain project 2006.
Present were Mayor Val Pizey, Councillors N. Gate, T. Sepers, C. Fadden, and J. Moen, Clerk-Treasurer P. Giles, and Roads Supt. E. Pearson. Visitors were M. Stintzi and representatives from K. Smart Engineering, who gave the report on the Stintzi Drain. There was little discussion on the report and less questions. There was some talk regarding the spring work and tenders.
The next Council meeting will also be a public meeting; this to review User Fees. Council would like feedback from community members regarding hall rentals, building permit fees and other fees.
Bills for the month of February in the total amount of $173,632.32 were approved for payment.
Roads Supt. Pearson was thanked by the Mayor for his new report format. Fire Chief S. McNally had submitted a report which included Jan. and Feb. meetings and activities and a growing list of volunteers.
Clerk Giles reported on remuneration and pay scales; tax capping / ratio; one property subject to tax sale; review of the fee for Big Island FN use of the Bergland dump; and review of building permit fees.
He reported some response to the letters he had sent to owners of two trailers on lots on Stintzi Drive West.
He reported on the meeting that he and Councillor Sepers attended with all of the municipalities and PWI to discuss PWI’s proposal to provide building official services. The result is that PWI will proceed with a formal contract.
Work on the Morson Government dock is progressing with four men under the supervision of Rocky Moen and should be completed in early April.
Council authorizes a drainage maintenance grant application for 2007 in the amount of $1000.00. Clerk Giles is to check on Asselin Tranport’s proposal for cost of recycling waste.
Council approved Cemetery and Recreation Committee members for the next year. Councillor Fadden will represent LoW Twp on RRFDC.
The Twp will pay the RRFDC levy of $7.00 per capita for population of 362.
Council has authorized a one time only donation of $3500.00 for the CT Scanner fund.
Four By-Laws were enacted: #189 - being the tax ratios; #190 - being the tax capping options; # 191 - being the Stintzi drain 2006 ( was provisionally adopted); and # 192 - being council remuneration.
Reminder: April 3rd will be a Public Meeting to review User Fees. The community is encouraged to attend at 7pm in Bergland.
