Support for Clothesline program overwhelming again

The people of Rainy River did it again last week!
Thanks to the Rainy River Drug Store’s participation in the Canadian Diabetes Association’s Clothesline program again, many, many, many dollars will be raised to be used to do diabetes research in this region.
Last Wednesday a CDA Clothesline truck was in town for the second time in less than a year. Last fall RR Drugs served as a drop off point for local residents to bring in things like clothing, towels, draperies, toys, jewellery, linens, shoes, dishes, knick-knacks, cell phones and pdas. They filled half a truck then and again last week the truck left Rainy River with a huge load on.
The drug store handed out information packages to customers a few weeks ago and then started taking in the donated items. “We filled the garage and most of our store room again. It is just incredible,” said drug store employee Bunnie Gaudry.
The items are taken back to Thunder Bay to Value Village who will give the CDA cash for them. All of which is used locally (in this region) for Diabetes research.
Often the trucks do not return to an area for some time, allowing people to build up a reserve of items and make the pickup worthwhile. But this second overwhelming influx showed the generousity of the people here and that there is plenty to give for this good cause.
The items that the Clothesline program will not take are, large appliances, opened containers of paint or other liquid substances, oil, gas or water heaters, building supplies, sofa-beds, cribs, walkers, playpens, car seats, swing sets, ping pong tables, carpet, newspapers, magazines, pet cages, gas bbq’s, food, coil or slat spring for beds or badly soiled furniture.
