Eunice Irene Rusnak, 74

Eunice Irene Rusnak (nee Van Tassel), born February 15, 1933 in Worthington Township, Ont, passed away at the age of 74 on Saturday June 2, 2007 at the Rainy River Health Care Centre, Rainy River, Ont.
Eunice fought a courageous battle with advanced auto-immune liver disease. She enjoyed her last months in the company of good friends and neighbors, under the watchful care of the staff at the Rainy River Hospital.
Eunice was predeceased by her husband George (1990); sisters Margaret Scott and Edna Robar, mother Violet Cliver, father David Van Tassel. She is survived by her children; Michael (Diane); Donald (Judy) all of St. Albert, AB; Peggy (Shawn) Mapoles of Vancouver, BC; and Jane (John) McDermid of St. Catharines, ON; and grandchildren; Chris and Michelle Rusnak; Scott and Jessica Rusnak; Kiel, Nicole, Mark and Georgia Mapoles and Elizabeth McDermid; sister Judy (Jim) Gosnell of Kenora, ON.
Eunice was a valued member of the Miriam Rebekah Lodge; Morson Ladies Institute, Past Noble Grand, Eastern Star, Moose Lodge, Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary Branch 54. She taught 4-H, and cooked for the local school lunch program and was a custodian at the CIBC bank. She worked at Aikenheads Grocery, Rainy River Supermarket and Lettner’s Gift Shop. Eunice attended and volunteered at the Knox United Church, the Canadian Cancer Society and the Rainy River Hospital Auxiliary.
Eunice’s children kept her busy traveling across Canada and the USA, as well as to England and Mexico. She was an avid gardener and talented cook, as well enjoyed curling, fishing and quilting. Eunice will be dearly missed.
A Memorial Service was held at the Rainy River Knox United Church on Tuesday June 5, 2007 at 11.a.m with Rev. Barbara Miller officiating with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Rainy River, ON.
Pall Bearers were Joan Hagarty, Rose Laevens, Verna Barsy, and Peggy Livingston.
Honourary Pall Bearers were Helen Kellner, Terry Swerbus, Grace Protau, Betty Hagerty, Elsie Ewald, and Gail Yeryk.
