Glenn Allan Ewald

Glenn was born in Atwood, Ontario on June 14, 1934 to Daniel and Ethel Ewald. He was the eighth of eleven children. Being raised on a farm, he had a wide variety of skills and interests. Because of his love for children, he pursued a career in teaching. He spent 9 years in various small public schools in Ontario but eventually the Lord called him to Smithers to become principal of Bulkley Valley Christian School for 36 years until his retirement in 1999.
With two children in tow, Glenn and Dinie headed west in 1963 to take up residence in the “Town for all Seasons”. Since hiking and hunting didn’t pay well, Glenn also had to hold down the job of Christian school principal!
This gave him much opportunity to touch the lives of many children and young people. He taught them the 3 R’s, but more importantly he taught them to see the world as God’s creation, to be studied, appreciated and used in a stewardly way.
While math facts may be forgotten, Glenn’s stories will long be remembered.
They may have been somewhat embellished, but they were always exciting and usually based on truth. He will also be remembered as the hunter, the berry picker, the bee keeper and the curve ball thrower.
Eight years after the death of his wife, the Lord brought Glenn and Thea together from opposite sides of the country. A year later Glenn was diagnosed with cancer, which was held at bay with a bone marrow transplant.
Nine years later, on February 17, 2002 the cancer won the battle, but not the war. Jesus Christ has the final victory over disease and death.
Glenn is lovingly remembered by his wife Thea, his daughter Gwen and Bruce, sons Wendall and Judy, Ed and Brenda, Mike and Kathleen, Ted and Jeanette, Roger and Tamara, grandchildren, brothers, sister, nieces and nephews and many friends.
Donations in Glenn’s memory may be made to the Bulkley Valley Christian Elementary School Library P.O. Box 2117, Smithers, BC V0J 2N0.
