About 50 people attended the Riverview Elementary grade 8 graduation last Tuesday evening.
There were 10 members of the class of 2007. They are Justin Moen, Brittany Archie, Tyler McNally, Matt Abbott, Brandon Hanson, Samantha Westover, Cody Ossachuk, Alex Stalker, Jessie Bourre and Ella Rose Henderson.
Grade 8 teacher Mark Jodoin welcomed everyone and then took time to address the graduates directly. He spoke of how life is full of changes and that graduating from elementary school to high school is a big one. “Some of you will find it a difficult transition. For some it will come naturally. But remember you can do whatever you set your mind too. Learn to accept change and to make positive changes in your lives.”
Principal Kendall Olsen spoke of keys and doors. He noted that the gr. 8 diploma they received is a key to open the door to high school. “That door will lead to many other doors. Those doors will offer opportunities to learn and to grow as a person. You will find some rooms you like and others you don’t. What you do in the rooms is what counts.”
He added that in four more years they will receive another key, their high school diploma, which will open more doors and help determine their pathway in life.
Class Valedictorian Jessie Bourre spoke of all the great memories they had. She also received the Ontario Principal’s Council Award.
After a slide show highlighting the grads, Jodoin gave each of the grads a special gift, roasting them a bit.
The evening ended with cake and refreshments in the school library.
