What a festive weekend.
Friday evening a big barbecue was held at Darlene Armstrong’s to commemorate her recent 65th birthday and her son Jim’s upcoming 40th birthday (July 16 for you calendar watchers).
About 30 people gathered to honour them and eat some good fixins.
On Saturday a very good friend of mine was married in Baudette. It was one of six weddings over there that day. Despite that there was a packed house at the church even though it was 107F with the heat index.
The reception was equally packed... I hope all the other weddings were equally busy.
It sounds like this weekend will be a quiet one around town, but that is likely the calm before the storm.
After a couple of years Railroad Daze is making a come back and promises to be a weekend filled with plenty to do for all ages.
Two events that were separate occasions in the past several years are now cornerstones for the festival. The Rainy River Music Festival and the Card Board Duct Tape Boat Races will stand on equal footing with other pillars of the event like the ball tournament.
Hopefully the lustre of the once hugely popular weekend will return. I am sure this year will be fun and will get us all talking to our friends and family from afar, encouraging them to once again book their summer holidays to be home the third weekend in July annually.
–Until then,
Ken
