Beach closed due to ecoli

Swim at your own risk... or better yet stay out of the Rainy River at Hannam Park and Government Dock.
Last week the Northwestern Health Unit (NWHU) posted warnings all along the waterfront warning people not to swim there. Brian Norris, Public Health Inspector, told the Record that water samples taken produced dangerous counts of bacteria; particularly ecoli.
While people could still swim there, if they manage to ingest some of the water they could get very sick. “It is gastro-intestinal like illness.”
Norris attributed the higher than safe counts to the recent windy and raining conditions. He noted that the NWHU will continue to sample the water there and once the bacteria drop to safe levels they will remove the warning signs from the park area.
