Great fun was had at annual Rainy River Fly

The air north of Rainy River at the Rainy River Internationals Radio Control Field was a buzz last Saturday with a whole gaggle of model aircraft from high performance aerobatic fixed wing, to jet propelled, to helicopters, to scale model WWII Warbirds.

The Boys and with their Toys gathered from across the center of the continent gathered 40 strong, with about twice that many aircraft and put on a spectacular display of craftsmanship and aerial skill. And yes, there were even a few sacrifices to the turf gods.

The Sky Hawks of Mankato, MN, a professional airshow club demonstrated why they are in high demand by the film industry with an aerobatic show that drew a lot of Oooo’s and Aaaahhhs from other pilots and the dozens of spectators that filled the stands and strained their necks to the sky.

The snarl of the many different reincarnations of the replica warbirds fostered images of their namesakes proud past as they lifted from the grassed runways or roared by in low level strafing runs.

The Fun Fly is held the same July weekend (3rd) every year, so mark your calendar for next July and buzz on down to Rainy River.
