ATIKOKAN – The McGuinty government continues advancing studies that will help determine mineral development potential in the Atikokan area, Northern Development and Mines Minister Rick Bartolucci announced today.
“With its long mining history, Atikokan is well-positioned to realize the significant benefits that this initiative could spur,” said Thunder-Bay Atikokan MPP Bill Mauro. “We expect that the trove of new data will breathe new life into this mining camp by spurring mineral exploration and strengthen Northwestern Ontario’s economy.”
The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) is providing $1 million to the Town of Atikokan to advance the Atikokan Mineral Development Initiative, a multi-year geoscience study that will expand the geoscientific database of the region. Technical needs include regional mapping, geochemical sampling, and airborne geophysical surveys. Riverside Health Care
Riverside Health Care Facilities is pleased to announce that the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care has approved an additional respite bed at Rainycrest Long Term Care Home.
Respite gives caregivers a break from their responsibilities while their adult family member is temporarily cared for in a long-term care home. The service can be used for a few days (such as a weekend), a week, or up to 30 days at a time. Respite is arranged through the North West Community Care Access Centre (CCAC) and is available for anyone 18 years of age or over. There is a minimal daily fee for respite services that is set by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.
“Often times, caregivers do not give themselves a break until they are completely burned out”, explained Lori Wilson, who is the Program Manager of the North West CCAC.
“We really encourage people to call us and ask for help. Even just a weekend away can provide some much-needed relief”.
With only one respite bed available in Kenora and two in Dryden, Wayne Woods, CEO of Riverside Health Care Facilities is pleased to be adding an additional bed in Fort Frances.
“We are working closely with the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care to better serve our community and this is great news for the people of the Rainy River district”, he said.
“Caregivers can rest assured that our dedicated staff at Rainycrest will provide high-quality, compassionate care to their loved one during their stay”, he added.
