Howard Hampton donates his raise to local charities

Fort Frances – NDP Leader Howard Hampton put people before pay hikes this last month by donating his MPP pay raise to a number of local charities in his riding, as well as to larger province-wide and national groups.

Since August 19, Howard has contributed over $2000 to 10 charities in amounts ranging from $100 to $300.

“When Dalton McGuinty gave himself a $40,000 pay hike, I promised to donate my pay hike to charity. I am proud to follow up on my personal commitment by making these donations to worthwhile charities. I know these donations will make a real, positive difference for the working families of Ontario,” Hampton said.
The organizations include the Emo Navy League (sea cadets), the Emo Parks Committee and the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Patrician Region, all charities in Kenora-Rainy River, as well as the MS Society of Canada, Amnesty International, the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, the CNIB, Habitat for Humanity Canada, The War Amps, and the Canadian University Service Overseas.
“People are more important than pay hikes for politicians. Today, and over the coming months, I look forward to donating my entire MPP pay hike to charity and accounting for every penny of it,” Hampton said.
