It’s back to school time again! As kids head to class, a healthy breakfast each morning will give them the energy needed to get the most out of their day. This September, start the school year off on the “bright” side and celebrate BREAKFAST FOR LEARNING Month, a national effort to shine the spotlight on child nutrition and its positive link to learning.
“Kids need to eat well to learn well, yet 31% of elementary school and 62% of secondary school students do not eat breakfast daily,” says Martha O’Connor, Executive Director at BREAKFAST FOR LEARNING. “We invite all Canadians to participate in BREAKFAST FOR LEARNING Month, help raise awareness of the importance of child nutrition, and ensure that our kids are receiving the healthy foods they need to learn to the best of their abilities.”
Celebrate BREAKFAST FOR LEARNING Month in your community by organizing special events to raise funds for breakfast, lunch and snack programs at your local schools and promote healthy eating. Encourage kids to eat smart by including them in menu planning, having cut up veggies available for easy after-school snacking, and packing nutritious lunches.
“BREAKFAST FOR LEARNING Month is a time to make child nutrition a priority,” says O’Connor. “This September, we challenge Canadians to build healthier eating habits and continue the whole year through. Together, we can ensure Canada’s kids are receiving the proper nutrition the need to contribute to a more positive school day.”
Since 1992, BREAKFAST FOR LEARNING has worked to ensure every child in Canada attends school well nourished and ready to learn. To help mark its 15th anniversary, BREAKFAST FOR LEARNING is launching its renewed brand to reflect its passion for kids and work as a strong national voice for child nutrition and learning.
