Fort Frances, Kenora, Dryden – At three same-day riding association meetings yesterday, Kenora-Rainy River New Democrats nominated NDP Leader Howard Hampton to continue to stand up for Kenora-Rainy River families as their NDP candidate in the upcoming provincial election.
First elected to represent the riding in 1987, Howard has shown his commitment to his neighbours and friends. A strong voice for the North, Howard has a solid record of standing up for the working families of his community.
“I’m proud that you have again asked me to stand up for the working families of Kenora-Rainy River at Queen’s Park,” Hampton said. “I am proud to represent this riding, to represent communities whose members work hard and play by the rules, and I promise that I will keep standing up for you every moment, as your MPP.”
The three well-attended meetings in Fort Frances, Kenora and Dryden reflected the affection and trust that local New Democrats have for Howard, known across Ontario as a hard-working, honest, reliable and experienced MPP who stands up for the North and a fair deal for working families.
“Northwestern Ontario working families know that Dalton McGuinty is taking them for granted. He promised change but didn’t deliver. He gave himself a $40,000 pay raise and gave money to his friends and insiders, but McGuinty broke his promises to Northerners. McGuinty’s policy of raising hydro rates through the roof has killed 40,000 good-paying forestry and forestry-related jobs,” Hampton said.
“Voters in Kenora-Rainy River know they can count on me and the NDP to stand up for a fair deal for seniors, children, First Nations and working people. I thank them for their support in the past and look forward to continuing to stand up for Kenora-Rainy River families,” Hampton said.
