Alyssa Miedema landed her first teaching job in Rainy River.
The Lakehead University Concurrent Education grad is teaching math and computers at RRHS.
She is a Thunder Bay native and has found the move a bit lonely but she is adjusting, noting that the people are very friendly, supportive and approachable here.
She said her days are very busy. She has grade 9 and grade 11 math classes and a grade 9 computer class. So far the students have been great and she says she is doing exactly what she wanted to do; teach math!
Miedema said she heard really good things about RRHS. “I heard it is a really good school to start at with a really positive atmosphere.” So far she has not been let down, noting the staff have been just that, supportive and positive.
Outside of school she likes playing and watching most sports, but soccer is her favourite. She also enjoys reading and camping.
She is living in Rainy River.
