Over 1,300 head sold at annual RRCA calf sale

The Rainy River Cattlemen’s Association (RRCA) saw over 1,300 head of cattle move through its new and improved sales barn on Saturday in Stratton.
It was their annual fall calf sale and sales manager Clayton Teeple was really pleased with the final results. “I spoke to a number of buyers and they said prices were ten cents a pound higher here than they were in Winnipeg the day before.”
Teeple credits that to the participation of local buyers. “There were quite a few feeder finance participants and that helped boost the sale numbers.”
Out of town buyers included two new ones from Eastern Ontario, return buyers from Thunder Bay, Dryden and Western Canada.
While the renovations are not 100% done at the sales barn, Teeple said that he heard many compliments about the new lighting in the sales ring and in the pen area. The new pen system was also fully functional and received many accolades as well.
Of the 1,300 plus animals sold the break down is as follows: 1,070 were calves, 200 yearlings and 49 were cows or bulls.
The next and final sale of the year will be held on October 27th in Stratton. It will be similar to the one just held with many calves and some yearlings and kill cows. After the main sale there will be a special bred cow consignment sale. “We have 30 plus registered already and there will be more by the 27th,” said Teeple. Anyone wanting to sign up for the consignment sale can call Clayton at 487-1465.
Teeple said through all the producers working together they have a “really positive thing going on” at the sales barn.
