The first sign of winter has arrived, not snow flying....but skates a skating.
The start of the 2007-08 season has arrived with over 50 figure skaters and family lacing up their skates for the first skate of the year Sunday.
With 39 skaters already registered the skate-a-thon was a huge success raising over $3500.00 for the Rainy River Figure Skating Club. This money helps cover ice time, coaching fees and helps to keep registration costs down.
The skaters were excited as they hit the ice, twirling and jumping around. They also practiced for their new levels of skating, and the beginners just learning how to skate. Several parents stated that their children were anxiously awaiting their time on the ice “all that day.”
Coaching again this year is Randi McCormick, a graduate of Rainy River Figure Skating Club. With her excitement she looks forward to working with her eight Junior Coaches and coaching all the young skaters.
This years ice show is being planned for the first weekend in March, with the theme being “The Four Seasons” It promises to be a great season!
