OLWS students plant a legacy

Students at Our Lady of the Way School recently helped plant a legacy.
Principal Brendan Hyatt said that he recently received an email from the RR Soil and Crop Association offering the school trees to plant.
He checked into what they had, noting that the school already has many conifer trees.
“I wanted to plant some colour and diversity,” said Hyatt.
So they took 100 trees, a mix of Poplar Hybrids, Green Ash and Amer Maples.
Every student planted at least one tree and some did two.
Hyatt said his father began planting trees at the school about 20 years ago. In addition to beatifying the campus it offers the students greater learning opportunities in science and math.
“They can study bark, leaves or calculate the size in math,” said Hyatt.
He was very pleased to get the trees and said if the opportunity presented itself again he would gladly do it again.
He said his father has always said that people should plant trees as a lasting legacy to loved ones.
The students of OLWS have been doing just that for decades; planting a legacy for all to enjoy.
