RR Red Hatters visit Emo

By Susan Douglas

The Circle D Restaurant in Emo, was the eatery for Oct. when eighteen Rainy River red hatters motored to the metropolis. Hostess of the month, Lady Linda of La Tea Da, (Linda Budreau) had created lovely fall centrepieces, and gift bags with red headbands & tea, for each lady in attendance. Janet Schaaf won the door prize of a spa basket. Janice Lee and Joyce Henry won table centrepiece gifts created by Linda.
“One, two, three, four,” called out Gaydonna as the ladies lifted their arms overhead during their exercise classes at Rejuvenate Fitness Club. The ladies slipped from their usual frilly attire to more comfortable clothing for an afternoon of wearing off their calories. While the 1st group participated in physical exercise, the second group exercised their Debit cards. More than happy to accommodate the red hatters were businesses like Meyers Clothing Store, Tompkins, the Purple Llama, The Corner Closet and Misty Rivers. “I have never experienced a group of ladies who have so much respect and consideration of each other. The whole meaning of the Red Hat Society is appreciating who we are, celebrating our accomplishments, and taking pride and satisfaction in our stage of life. We all have an intricate part in life and a contribution to give, ” (as quoted by one red hat lady.)
The Travelling Teapot has made it’s way from Queen La Diva’s (Susan Douglas) to Lady Snow Belle’s (Sheila McIntosh’s) and on to Lady Dolly of La Di Da’s, (Dawn Jarvis) for Nov. 7th when guest of Honour was Lady Love Lee, (Jan Lee) celebrating her birthday. Other invited guests were Lady Round To It, (Elsie Gerula), Duchess of Wilson Creek, (Bev Langer), Queen La Diva (Susan) and, Lady Lizbeth, (Nancy Fretter). The table was set with a lovely crocheted tablecloth and fine Paragon china with red hat centrepiece. Each lady received a jewellery party favour and truffle at her place setting, a gift from our hostess, Dawn. Following a delightful light lunch, candles were lit on LadyLove Lee’s homemade butterscotch banana bundt cake while the ladies sang Happy Birthday. Both Chai tea and Strawberry tea were served.
Queen La Diva shared some insight into the tea mania.
“Tea mania is sweeping the nation, and people everywhere can be seen dusting off their teapots and scouring grocery stores in search of clotted cream. Why you ask? Well, why not! Tea has been a way of life for centuries all over the world, especially in the British Isles, Russia, North Africa, the Middle East, and virtually all of Asia. Simultaneously relaxing and a pick-me-up, tea has proven itself to be a delightful alternative to coffee. Chai latte, anyone? (The Little Pink book of Entertaining pg. 134)
Following the opening of a few gifts the ladies drew names for where the Travelling Teapot travels next. Jan Lee drew Bev Langer’s name for her guest of honour Nov. 28th in Stratton. Bev drew Jeanette Armstrong’s name for Dec.
