On Monday November 26, 2007 at the Riverside Health Care Facility, Rainy River, Ont; Myland A. Gaudry peacefully passed away at the age of 82. Mylie was born January 2, 1925 in Minihico, Ont and was the youngest son of the late Cleophaus and Blanche Gaudry’s thirteen children. He spent his youth in Minihico, and attended high school in Kenora, Ont. He also lived in several communities in Northwestern Ontario during his years guiding on the lake and working in the bush.
On July 19, 1947, Mylie was united in marriage to Evelyn Kreger. They moved into a home in Minihico, and began to raise a family, eventually having three sons and a daughter. In 1958 he realized one of his dreams and purchased a tourist resort in Morson, Ont called Fred’s Place. Today it bares his name, and is known as Mylie’s Place. In the early 1960’s he fulfilled another dream and bought a float plane, which he loved to fly into tight potholes and his outpost cabins in Arrow Lake.
In 1976 the family was saddened by the sudden death of Evelyn, Mylie and Evy had been married for just over 29 years. On December 10, 1977 Mylie was united in marriage to his second wife, Roberta Palmer of Marshalltown, Iowa. The family also welcomed a stepsister to the family.
He worked along side his family at the resort until his semi-retirement in 1982. He then built his dream cabin on a piece of land he had set aside years early for just such a thing. He could see the lake clearing from every window in the cabin. He continued to sell minnows, make and sell tackle, and provide guiding service for many years. Eventually though he had to slow down some, and just started taking a select group and family and fiends to his favorite secret fishing holes.
He spent these later years with Bert in Morson, Marshalltown and Florida. Taking advantage of the joy’s that each of these places brought to their lives. When his health began to fail him, he took up residence in the Rainy River Hospital, where the staff treated him with kindness and caring. He often mentioned how happy he was about being able to live there.
