District closer to getting CT Scanner
News Release
Riverside Health Care Facilities
Wayne Woods, Riverside CEO said today that the purchase of a CT Scanner for Riverside Health Care Facilities is getting closer although a vendor has not yet been selected.
“We are still in the selection process”, he stated. “We have short-listed two vendors that both have their advantages and disadvantages”.
“Unfortunately, the selection process is taking us longer than originally anticipated. We do not want to purchase the equipment first and then have regrets because we didn’t take all the variables into consideration”, explained Woods.
“With a purchase of this magnitude we want to make sure we are getting the very best and latest technology in keeping with our high standard of delivering excellent health care services and programs to the people of the Rainy River district”.
“By taking the extra time we will ensure that the right decision is made for Riverside”.
Back in March, District residents pushed the Just Imagine fundraising campaign over its goal of $1.5 million to purchase a CT Scanner. Meanwhile, more and more patients are being referred for CT Scans and have to travel to Winnipeg, Kenora or Thunder Bay.
Woods stressed that he is cognizant of these issues and is doing everything possible to get the CT Scanner here as soon as possible.
In January, Patti Johnson, who is the manager of Diagnostic Services will be going on site-visits to Toronto to view the two models under consideration.
“One of our employees will be joining me and so will a representative from Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre”, noted Johnson.
“This will give us the opportunity to see how the equipment works and ask questions to staff members who are operating it”.
“We want to ensure that the people who will be operating the equipment are comfortable with the purchase”, she explained.
Johnson further reported that employees are continuing their CT Scan certification courses and completed their second examination in November.
Woods extended his appreciation to all district residents, on behalf of Riverside, for the outstanding support of health care and the CT Scan technology.
“We really do appreciate the support and we just ask for patience and understanding as we work through the process”.
