Ladies donate $5,000 to Legion

The local branch of the Legion Ladies Auxiliary held its December monthly meeting and Christmas Party on December 12th with president Hazel Tullet presiding. There were 20 members present. Acting secretary Janet Schaff read the minutes of the November meeting. Business was dealt with and correspondence read. A letter was received from Deer Lodge Foundation requesting a donation. A motion passed to donate $200.00 to this Foundation.
An election of officers for the coming year took place. After the meeting adjourned the ladies were served a delicious meal by the Branch. The ladies thanked the Legion men for the royal treatment and then presented the Branch president Gerry Marchuk with a cheque for $5000.00. A gift exchange then took place which was enjoyed by all.
On January 9th, 2008 the Ladies Auxiliary held its monthly meeting with 17 members present. The first order of business was the installing of the executive and officers for the new year. Peggy Livingston was the installing officer. The following were elected and installed for 2008 - President - Valerie Nelson; 1st Vice - Evelyn Bourre; 2nd Vice - Beaty Nault; Past President - Hazel Tullet; Treasurer - Donna Ivall; Secretary - Gladys Yeo; Sargent of arms - Donna Ivall; Flag Bearers - Valerie Nelson, Donna Ivall; Ev Bourre; Membership - Evelyn Nelson; Social - Audrey Meunier; Sick & Visiting - Verna Barsy & Janet Schaaf; Scholarship - Beaty Nault; Kitchen - Peggy Livingston; Publicity - Gladys Yeo.
Minutes of the December meeting were read and correspondence dealt with. A donation of $200.00 was approved for the Legion Athletic Sports Foundation.
Donna Ivall gave her report on finances. It was noted that the Auxiliary had worked very hard in the catering efforts for 2007. They will be catering to the District Municipal Meeting on January 26th. Workers will be needed to help with this affair which includes breakfast, lunch, coffee breaks and dinner. The district convention will be held in Red Lake, Ont in February. This will be discussed at our February 13th meeting.
