Anti-drug driving campaign kicks off with a contest
News Release
OSAID
TORONTO, January 14, 2008, Today, Ontario Students Against Impaired Driving (OSAID) launched “Dude, Where’s My Licence,” a province-wide contest which aims to create awareness among teens about the dangers of taking drugs and driving.
The campaign was made possible because of major sponsors such as the Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario (IBAO), CTV and Pilot Insurance Company, and was also supported by the Ontario Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services.
“We’ve seen that many teens aren’t aware of the dangers of drugs and driving,” said OSAID Executive Director Matt Evans. “Most teens don’t even realize that doing drugs and driving is just as illegal and dangerous as drinking and driving, so we’re working to change that misconception.”
Evans said that he hopes that by launching this challenge for high school students, they will learn about the legal and financial costs associated with drugs and driving.
There are two parts to the contest. First, students are invited to take a simple three question true or false quiz available online at www.osaid.org. Once completed, the quiz taker will be entered to win one of four laptop computers, one of five $100 cash prizes, and one Much Music Video Dance Party for his or her high school.
Students are also invited to take part in the creative aspect of the contest, which calls for them to create advertising, in either design categories of poster, audio commercial or video commercial, which will educate teens about the negative consequences of doing drugs and driving. Winners will have their work distributed across the province to TV stations, radio stations and newspapers in addition to being awarded cash amounts of $300, $200 and $100.
“Once again, IBAO is very proud to be associated with such a worthwhile cause as OSAID,” said IBAO CEO Randy Carroll. “Campaigns like these are vital in keeping our communities and our teens safe.”
IBAO has supported OSAID in a variety ways for over a decade, and was responsible for contributing a large portion of the funds necessary for the promotion of the province-wide “Dude, Where’s My License” campaign which include CTV television ads.
“The Ontario insurance brokers are great community partners, and we are so thankful for their help once again,” said Evans.
