If God would speak, what would he say?

By Darlene Smith

If God would speak a personal message to us right now, what would that message be? If He had something burning on His heart to say to us here, in Rainy River area what would He say?
Some think He doesn’t exist. Some think He doesn’t speak anymore. Some think He couldn’t care less. Some just do not care whether He spoke or not.
But if He were to speak, what would He say?
We look at our circumstances; no jobs, businesses closing, illness, family problems or financial difficulty. So, where is He anyway?
But if He were to speak, what would He say?
Would the words He spoke condemn us for blowing it? Would they have a non-chalant air to them? Would they be words of anger?
Or would they be quite different.
If only we could get encouraged or strengthened or healed or cared for.
If God were to speak, what would He say?
In the book of Exodus, after receiving the Ten Commandments, the people’s reaction to hearing God’s voice was like this;
Exodus 20:19
And they said to Moses, “You speak to us, and we will listen. But don’t let God speak directly to us, or we will die!”
Our belief in what He would say is directly paralleled to what we believe He is.
He is not angry, condemning or apathetic. He is forgiving, encouraging and very much concerned for us.
The people of Israel at that time did not know His heart and that is why they were afraid to hear Him speak.
This is what the Bible says:
Psalm 103:3-6
3 He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases.
4 He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies.
5 He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagle’s!
6 The Lord gives righteousness and justice to all who are treated unfairly.
If God would speak to us, this is what He would say.

Psalm 103:8-13
8 The Lord is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.
9 He will not constantly accuse us, nor remain angry forever.
10 He does not punish us for all our sins; he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve.
11 For his unfailing love toward those who fear him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth.
12 He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west.
13 The Lord is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him.
It is quite different knowing this about God than knowing His heart. He desires to speak with words that would comfort us and settle us. We are His children and He is our Heavenly Father. He is just like Jesus.
So, if God would speak to you today, what would He say? Why don’t you find out?
