A very neighbourly place!
One thing that can be said for Rainy River is that many of its citizens are very neighbourly.
I guess I hadn't really thought about it a lot until one of my neighbours in Riverview Apartments passed away last week. Eva Lowes used to call me at home frequently to ask if I could check on one of the other residents in the building she was in.
She was always concerned about their wellbeing. Eva was always polite and friendly to me and I am sure to all passers by. She loved my little dogs and often spoke about her son Dale's dog.
Once she called me to give her car a boost and I did the neighbourly thing and went over and got her car going. She wanted to pay me but I refused saying it was no problem.
On Sunday I walked up to the office to get the camera to cover the figure skating show and there was Lance Lindal, being neighbourly. He was plowing snow in front of his place and instantly came over and plowed us out.
When I went home after the ice show I dug my driveway out and noticed my neighbour had left in the car before the snow started and decided to help her out by pushing the snow off her driveway. I did it without much thought, just as Jim Armstrong up the street used the snowblower to do my yard, his mom's and my neighbour's place earlier this winter.
After thinking about these few incidents, I realized we really have a neighbourly town. People like Eva Lowes lead by example. She will be sadly missed in our neighbourhood and by all who knew her.
–Until then,
Ken
