RRHS places its first apprentices at local businesses

News Release
RRHS

One of the priorities of the Ontario government is to increase the number of youth participating in apprenticeships. The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) is a partnership between Ontario school boards, employers who can provide placements in apprenticeship occupations and the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities. Students who participate in the program are provided opportunities to participate in an apprenticeship occupation while enrolled in high school. Successful OYAP graduates acquire their diploma as well as accreditation for completing part of the on-the-job training requirements of a formal apprenticeship while enrolled in the Cooperative Education program at their schools.
Rainy River High School is pleased to announce the placement of three high school students in local OYAP positions. This certainly would not be possible without the support of the most important link, the local business owners who are willing to accept these students for apprenticeship training under their expert guidance.
The first business that RRHS would like to recognize is Border Service in Rainy River, owned and operated by Dale Morrison. RRHS student, Ryan Fuhrer, has been accepted into the apprenticeship of automotive service technician under the guidance of journeyman Dale Morrison.
The second business to be recognized is Kreger Sales and Service in Rainy River, owned and operated by Marty Kreger. RRHS student Tyler Brown has been accepted into the apprenticeship of automotive service technician under the guidance of journeyman Jake Penner.
The third business to be recognized is T&K Sharp Construction in Stratton, owned and operated by Terry and Kip Sharp. RRHS student Byron Sharp has been accepted into the apprenticeship of truck and coach technician as well as heavy duty equipment technician. This OYAP will be supervised by journeyman Terry Sharp.
Through the generosity of these businesses and others who accept co-op students each semester, we are able to provide work experiences that are meaningful and relevant. Thanks again to Border Service, Kreger Sales and Service and T&K Sharp Construction for accepting these youth apprentices.
If your business is interested in sponsoring a student for OYAP or Co-op, please contact Rainy River High School at 852-3284 for details.
