RRHS to host sports clinics
By Rebecca Tolen
RRHS
Starting Saturday, April 5th, the Rainy River High School Athletic Committee and Student Leadership Class will be hosting Basketball and Volleyball clinics for the youth in our area. It runs every Saturday in April from 9:00am to 11:30 am.
The purpose of these clinics is to introduce the sports of basketball and volleyball to youth in our community and to encourage healthy active living. These clinics address a very serious issue. Canada’s obesity rate is higher than it’s ever been and unless something is done to curb this problem, it will continue to increase. This clinic hopes to get the youth in our community to be more active and lean away from this trend of obesity.
At these clinics, the students will learn the skills and teamwork to help them achieve in these sports. The first 3 Saturdays will be spent working on skills and on the last Saturday, everyone will split up into teams and play against each other. There will be two age groups; ages 7-9 and 10 to Grade 8. All youth from across the district are invited to come out and play.
Registration forms are due in school offices by March 17th.
