Chem-Free grad being organized

News Release
RRHS

With Rainy River High School graduation ceremonies taking place on Tuesday, June 24th, grads are busy planning the 5th annual Chem-Free Grad celebration, an alternative to the traditional party that takes place on grad night. Students continue to indicate that they want an opportunity to celebrate their achievement in a safe and controlled environment that is free of drugs and alcohol. They have volunteered to be on one or more of the three committees that were formed: Activities/Events; Fundraising; Food/Prizes and Publicity.
In advance of the event, participating students will sign a contract promising to be free of alcohol and drugs on grad night. The students and supervisors will meet at the High School at 11:00 p.m. on grad night and remain at the school, free from drugs, alcohol, or tobacco use. The celebration will continue until approximately 3:00 a.m. the following morning. During the event, grads and their guests will be involved in a host of fun activities, including several draws and contests.
A meeting for participating students, their parents, and interested community partners has been scheduled for Thursday, April 3rd at 6:00 pm at Rainy River High School to begin the planning and organizing of the event.
The Fund Raising Committee has undertaken a campaign to help cover the costs of this event. Letters are being sent to several businesses and organizations in the area to seek their support. This support could take the form of donations, merchandise or gift certificates. Any and all donations would be greatly appreciated.
It is the hope of this year’s Chem-Free Grad students that this will be bigger and better than ever. If you would like to support our students, you are invited to attend the meeting on April 3rd or contact the school at 852-3284 for more information.
