Firemen curlers return from nationals 2-8

It wasn’t as good a finish as last year, the local firemen from Rainy River and Dawson Townships helped put this area on the map again, travelling to Richmond, B.C. to curl in the Canadian National Firefighters championships for the second year in a row.
Early on it looked like the team would hold their own. They lost their first game to Alberta 5-2 but then bounced back to beat New Brunswick 7-6 and Nova Scotia 11-7. As skip Tim Nordin said Monday, “Then our wheels fell off. We just couldn’t get it together in several games.”
They then lost all their games to:
PEI 6-2
BC 6-3
NWT 6-1
Que. 10-4
Sask. 9-3
MB 9-8
S. Ont. 9-5
Nordin said the trip was a blast and that the competition was even tougher than last year. “The guy that won it has been to the Brier,” said Nordin. That team was the Northwest Territories.
Nordin hopes they can make it three in a row next year. The Nationals are in Price Edward Island in 2009.
