Rainy River High School was once again very well represented at the NorWOSSAA Badminton Championships in Atikokan on April 16.
They had 11 players qualify (8 srs., 3 jrs.) In the junior division, Catherine Whetzel qualified in junior girl’s singles and Rylea Lauzon and Brandon Brigham qualified in junior mixed doubles.
For the seniors, Molly Barlett and Kristin Moen, Kate Bartlett and Brenley Anderson all qualified in senior girl’s doubles. Also, Alyssa Jodoin and Matt Johnson, Alyshia Langlais and Jared McQuaker all qualified in senior mixed doubles.
Teams needed to win gold or silver in order to advance to the NWOSSAA Championships on April 23 in Wawa. Although all teams played very well at this high level of play, two teams really stood out and dominated play in their respective division.
Molly Bartlett and Kristin Moen went undefeated at 5-0 capturing the NorWOSSAA gold medal, while Kate Bartlett and Brenley Anderson lost only one match (to Molly and Kristin) taking home the NorWOSSAA silver medal. These four ladies have now qualified for the NWOSSAA Championships in Wawa where they will be competing against teams from across Northern Ontario. The top two teams at Wawa will advance to the provincial championships in Niagara Falls May 1-3.
