LoW Women's Institute holds annual meeting

Lake of the Woods (Bergland) Women’s Institute held their Branch Annual Meeting on April 9th at the home of April Chojko-Bolec. The meeting was opened with the singing of the W.I. Ode. Seven members answered the roll call by paying annual membership dues. Volunteer hours were calculated for the annual reports.
The minutes and the financial statement were accepted. The motion to pay all bills was carried.
The Thinking of You committee reported on the cards sent out and a list was made for next month.
The report on the “Spring Tea”, which was held on March 12th, was given. 39 W.I. members, neighbourhood ladies and 3 men attended. The program material obtained from the OPP and MTO and presented by Ruth Brett, was on “Travelling Alone” and “Safe Winter Driving”. The hosts were happy that the guests joined in with comments and suggestions. The display “Items that would be useful to carry in the vehicle” was ably presented by Carolyn Kreger, who also demonstrated a somewhat questionable sense of humour. The mystery auction, which is always fun, caught someone again this year. Imagine paying $12.00 for a bookmark! Or $30.00 for an flashlight ! $273.00 was raised and was donated to the W.I. Museum. The W.I. thanked their guests for their support .
The Museum reported that a very successful St. Patrick‘s Supper was held on March 15th; a joint fundraiser with the Emo Public Library. A huge flea market will be held at the Museum buildings during Spring Fever Days from 10am to 4pm on Friday 18th and Saturday 19th. The Museum quilt raffle will be held again this summer with a quilt made and donated by 91 year old Katie Pentney.
Old Business: A workshop will be held at McCrosson-Tovell School on April 26 starting at 10am; the course will be on Swedish Embroidery (or Huck Weaving). Kits will be available for $7.00. Margaret at 488-5722 or Ruth at 488-5360 will take registrations.
With all seats declared vacant, the Annual Meeting was held. All officers were returned as follows:

New Business: The District Annual Meeting will be held on May 3rd at the Stratton Senior’s Centre. Registration is at 9am. Lists of duties was discussed. Members are encouraged to bring a guest.
The W.I. will hold a pie and tart sale in June at the school and will again host the Chili cook-off at Family Fun Days in August.
The May meeting will be at Marjorie Meek’s home - roll call is bring a plant story, a picture or a slip, seeds, a plant for exchange. The roll call at the June meeting will be a tray of flowers to plant at the cemetery.
The meeting adjourned, all members settled down for a delicious lunch and a good visit.
