Crime was down in 2007

Rainy River saw a decline in crime last year.
Last week, O.P.P. Staff Sgt. for RR District, Dave Lucas, present Rainy River Town Council with the Annual Report for Rainy River.
Lucas noted that the total reported occurrences in the town of Rainy River was 274 in 2007, down from 351 in 2006 and 285 in 2005.
The clearance or solve rates for those occurrences was as follows:
•Violent crime: 100%
•Drug crime: 100%
•Property crime: 29.4%
Rainy River also saw an increase in the number of hours of service it directly received from the O.P.P. in 2007 over 2006. The community saw police officers working in the community 2,533 hours in '07 and 2,476.25 hrs. in '06. However in '05 the number was 2,926.25 hrs.
The '07 hours of service breaks down as follows:
•Criminal code: 936.25 hrs.
•Traffic: 85.5 hrs.
•Patrol: 958.5 hrs.
Lucas also gave council the estimated cost to the community for policing services in 2008:
