In the early hours of Saturday morning, May 3, an act of violence and vandalism shattered the peace, as well as windows in Rainy River.
Residents in the 300 block of First St were aroused from their beds shortly after 3:00 am when first, a distraught woman seeking assistance appeared at the door of one house, and witnessed an individual attacking a neighbouring dwelling.
It appears three heavy landscaping blocks were hurled against Jack and Norma Elliott's 303 1st St. residence, shattering one window and damaging the stucco siding. A lawn ornament was thrown completely through another window. Preliminary estimates by the owner of the dwelling, place damages at a few hundred dollars.
OPP were quickly on the scene investigating. The women was comforted and questioned, but the alleged perpetrator of the violence was not located until sometime later. The suspect was taken into custody and the investigation continues.
Many residents on the street were awakened by the flurry of activity. The OPP must be commended for their quick response in returning peace to the community.
