Do you want to become a prize winning Guitar Hero? Well over the next ten weeks you can do just that as the first ever Rainy River District Guitar Hero competition will be held in Rainy River, Emo and Fort Frances.
Beginning May 15th people 19 and older can gather at the CN Hotel every week to compete in the popular musical video game. Registration will be at 8 p.m. with competition beginning shortly there after. Those 18 and under can also participate beginning on May 17th in the CN Hotel Dining room with registration at 4 p.m.
In Emo the competition will take place on Tuesdays for 19 and over and Saturdays for 18 and under. Both days at the Emo Inn.
In Fort Frances it will be held Thursdays and Saturdays for the respective age groups. Both days at The Adventure Inn.
According WikiHow.com, Guitar Hero is a rhythm-based game for the PlayStation 2, Nintendo Wii, Playstation 3, PC/Mac, and Xbox 360 where you have to play a “guitar” in time with many well known tracks. Playing requires nothing more than a sense of the music’s beat, a small degree of patience, a love of at least a few of the songs present, and most importantly - ludicrously dexterous fingers (a skill which can be acquired).
Event organizer Anthony Mason said that each week a “Guitar Hero” or champion will earn a place at the final competition to win a grand prize. That will be held in connection with Railroad Daze in Rainy River the third weekend in July. There will also be weekly prizes for the “Guitar Hero” of the week.
Mason said that so far the grand prize includes a 42” LCD t.v. and more prizes are in the works.
The Friday of Railroad Daze a “last chance” tournament will be held to allow those who do not live here but are travelling to Rainy River for the festival to compete in the finals of the competition.
On the Saturday the top 10 “Guitar Heroes” from the weekly competitions as well as the “last chance heroes” will converge on Rainy River to battle it out to be the “Ultimate RR Dist. Guitar Hero.”
There is a weekly charge and competitors can participate in every week’s event or only those they wish to.
Mason said there has already been great interest in the event with people calling to find out when and where it is being held.
