Citizens gathered to clean up Hannam Park last Wednesday

A gray morning turned into the first really beautiful spring day of the season Wednesday as a dozen community minded citizens showed up at Hannam Park in Rainy River for the start of the Annual Pitch In and Clean up Day.
A stack of filled garbage bags, a pile of brush and a sparkling clean riverfront park by 6:00 pm were full proof of their industry. Hot dogs, and refreshments were in order for all. But one lone volunteer was still hard at it. Dana Kaliska was busy roto-tilling up the area around the swings and playground to discourage weeds and loosen up the sand for the kids.
With a reluctant spring, many yard and street cleanup programs have lagged, but now is the chance to pitch in and do your part. A collection pail and a 15 minute stroll down your street will not only give you a bit of healthy exercise, it will demonstrate the pride that makes your community a great place to live.
