Public invited to open council meeting this Wednesday

This Wednesday the residents of Rainy River will have an opportunity to comment on and learn about several key issues when Town Council holds an open meeting at the old railway station (Seniors’ Activity Depot).
The meeting, being held at 6 p.m., will feature a copy of the 2008 Town Budget, 2008 User Fees, the Community Improvement Plan and hopefully information about the planned closure of the Little St. Rail Crossing and improvements to Railway Avenue.
Town Clerk Veldron Vogan said that she is waiting for information from CNR and hopes to have it by the meeting. If it arrives she is hopeful that time lines for the crossing closure and improvements to Railway Avenue will be available.
The public will also be able to look at the 2008 town budget and make comments on it. It will likely be passed at the regular June meeting (next Monday) by council.
Vogan said there are little changes to the Community Improvement Plan and council has already announced that there will be no increases to town fees this year but taxes will be going up by about 5%.
All members of the public are welcome to attend.
