The local branch of the Legion Ladies Auxiliary held their monthly meeting on June 11th with President Valerie Nelson presiding.
There were 16 members present. Prior to the meeting a pot luck supper was enjoyed by all. Minutes of the April meeting were read and all accounts were presented and authorized for payment. Treasurer Donna Ivall read the account of the Auxiliary’s finances.
Correspondence was dealt with as required. There was one application for new membership. Members were all in favour of this application.
On June 25th the David Thompson Brigade of voyageurs will be in Rainy River. The Legion will be serving them breakfast on the 26th at 5 a.m. A price for this was decided on and workers were delegated. The auxiliary catered to the High School Athletic’s Banquet on June 16th with approximately 130 people in attendance. Beaty Nault reported on the applications received for the High School bursary to be presented at the Grad ceremony. Reports were read from members regarding visits to ill members and totals from weekly Meat Draws and Cribbage games.
A luncheon will be catered to on July 12th for Vivian & Fred Hartnell’s 65th anniversary.
The Recreation Director Meaghan Shanks made an appearance at the meeting to discuss a donation to help buy a dehumidifier for the arena. She is applying for an Ontario Trillium Grant, but needs support from local organizations in order to get this grant. A motion was made to donate $1000.00 to this cause and all members were in favour.
The next meeting will be on September 10, 2008 as we break for the summer, but many events will take place during the summer months.
