With the July 18-20 weekend just weeks away, the RailRoad Daze Committee is on track to putting on one of the most extensive Family Festivals Rainy River has enjoyed in years. Thursday evening the last full Committee meeting reviewed events and plans scheduled, and delegated final tasks to various parties. Final adjustments and details will be coordinated by Sheila Mason liaising with different event leaders. It is a truly substantial undertaking for a small community.
Full details of the Festival will be advertised shortly with the usual complement of entertainment, dances, ball tournaments, and kids activities. A Seniors Picnic Luncheon, Family Fun Evening, Comedy Show, Butterfly release, Farmers Market & Craft/Yard Sale, Horseshoes, and Scavenger Hunt are just some of the events.
Last Chance Guitar Hero Contest is inviting competitors from outside communities as well as locals. On Sunday the 6th Annual Great Beaver Cardboard/Ducttape Boat Races will sail again from Hannam Park and the Music Fest and Interdenomination Church Service will be held there as well.
The RailRoad Daze Parade is being re-instituted on Saturday this year and the Fun Fly at the Radio Controlled Aircraft field on Byrnes Road north of Rainy River expects over fifty flyers from across the Minnesota, Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario. The Skyhawks, a professional club from Mankato that flies model planes for the movie industry will be attending. Be sure to catch their spectacular aerial exhibition.
July 18-20 promises to be a full weekend of excitement for the whole family. Watch for the schedule of events and ‘Track on Down’ to Rainy River’s RailRoad Daze.
