RRHS honours its best students/athletes

Four people received the highest possible athletic honour they could from Rainy River High School last Monday.
Molly Bartlett, Kristin Moen, Andrew Friesen and Dan Usiski, Jr. received Gold Jackets at the annual RRHS awards banquet.
Bartlett and Moen received theirs after two solid consecutive seasons in girls doubles badminton, going to the All Ontario’s both years. “They had an outstanding career in badminton losing only to their teammates Chantel and Hilary last year,” said Athletic Director Guy Arpin.
Friesen who attends Sturgeon Creek Alternative Program in Stratton was a stellar cross country runner in the international sports cooperative with Lake of the Woods School (Baudette) and RRHS. He made it to the State Cross Country meets in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007. He along with a teammate were the very first ones from LoW to ever make State in this event.
Usiski earned his jacket playing solid hockey with LoW School, again part of the international sports coop. Arpin said that Usiski played at least three years varsity, was a team leader (Team Captain this year), solid checker high scorer (22 goals, 12 assists this yr.) and made several state honours. Arpin said the Baudette Bay Hockey Classic saw Usiski earn himself a name scoring goals as the announcers from the television coverage called him “The Blast from the North!”
Receiving the top academic award of the night was Kaylie Lundgren. She received the Ontario Principals Council Student Leadership Award.
