RR Youth Soccer wraps up its season
By Rebecca Tolen
Coach
Rainy River Youth Soccer had 140 kids sign up this year. A few more than last year yet again.
The program was supposed to last 8 1/2 weeks ending with the tournament in Emo but the first week was canceled due to the unexpected snow fall.
It depends on the age level what they are learning.
Jk/Sk - Learn teamwork, basic dribbling passing and shooting as well as the basic rules of the game. This group is here to have fun and socialize.
Grades 1-2 - Start learning how to pass the ball on the move, dribble quickly, throw ins and how to work together in order to acheive a goal. Start learning some of the complex rules such as keeping their feet on the ground when they throw in etc.
Grade 3-5 - Dribbling, passing, heading, trapping, throwins with their eyes up and looking to make a play. They work on speed agility, and footwork. They learn the complexities of the game and start translating it into their game.
Grade 6-8 - Reinforce and refining skills needed for the game. Learning how to put everything they have been practising into a game situtation. Learn to use the whole field and work together in order to win.
In all area coaches emphasize team work and sportsmanship.
All groups practise for about 1/2 hour and then play the other 1/2 hour each Monday and Wednesday
The coaches this year were as follows:
JK/Sk - Maron Kaczmar, Shannon Hagarty, Leslie Wood, Brayden Bonhomme
1/2 - Julie Tiboni, Glen Caradice, Matt Johnson, Sheila Jolicourer, Matt Godin
3-5 - Meghan Shanks, Ken Cunningham, Richard Boisvert, Rebecca Tolen, Matt Godin, Alyshia Langlais,
6-7 - Meghan Shanks, Richard Short, Rebecca Tolen, Paula Clifford, Cody Jarvis, Justin Moen
High School Girls Soccer Team made our shirts as a fund raiser for their new jersies.
Thank you to Meghan for doing a lot of the work this year and she will be taking it over next year. Dawn Drennan, the Masts, Troy and Georgia Kreger and Amanda Lowes for all their help with the supper.
The program does not hand out awards because it is a recreational program but it did give the kids all shoe bags to keep their cleats and shin guards in.
Over the weekend the kids wrapped up their season with a fun tournament in Emo and did really well there.
