Eight graduate from McCrosson-Tovell

On Thursday, June 19, the McCrosson-Tovell School community celebrated the graduation of eight of its grade eight students: Daniel Anderson, Emily Anderson, Eric Detweiler, Courtney Hansen, Hannah Johnson, Aurora Olson, Corey Smith and Ryllie Yarmovich. At 6 p.m. the evening started with a scrumptious potluck supper.
After that, “Mother Hydro” dictated a change in the proceedings. Instead of the scheduled power point presentation, graduates, parents, friends, grandparents, staff and former students, were blessed with extra time to socialize and, if lacking willpower, (as I was) mill around the food tables for an extra morsel or two.
An enterprising parent, Robert Smith (Corey’s dad), brought in a generator. Just when all the wires were re-attached - the power came back on! Distinguished guests then had the opportunity to view a power point presentation of each of the graduates.
Then, the valedictorian address was delivered, not by one student, but by three – Aurora Olsen, Hannah Johnson and Ryllie Yarmovich.
Principal, Casey Slack, then gave some very inspirational and motivational words to the students.
Then came the awards presentations. Emily Whetzel received the Bobby Fadden Memorial Award for highest Grade 7 academic achievement. Courtney Hansen received the Sheila Lagarde Award for Athletic Ability, Emily Anderson received the Women’s Institute Citizenship Award and Courtney Hansen received the Ontario Principals’ Council Award for Student Leadership.
Next, Grade 6,7,8 teacher, Mike McInerney presented his own “awards” in the form of a chocolate bar, along with a few words about each student.
