The Rainy River Recreation Board received some really good news last week!
The board has received word that it has qualified for a $15,000 grant from the Ontario Communities in Action Fund.
Rec. Director Meghan Shanks told the Record Friday that they will be putting the money to good use just as they did last year when they purchased all the exercise equipment for the new fitness room at the Rec. Centre.
This year they are planning to purchase the following equipment:
-frisbee golf
-baseball
-a portable sound system
-snow shoes
-canoes, paddles and life jackets
-croquet sets
-basketball
Shanks said that the sound system will be used for various activities in the centre including dance and fitness classes as well as at functions in the park like the recent Canada Day activities.
While they had hoped to purchase used canoes from Canoe Canada this past spring, they had to wait for the grant to be approved and missed out on the canoes. However, Shanks said they will keep them on the books for next year and have the funding to buy them.
With all this equipment she is continuing her ambitious development of many recreational opportunities in Rainy River. Some of them old and some new. Anyone interested in any of the activities she is working on can call her at 852-4446 or stop by the Rec. Centre.
One of those opportunities will present itself in the form of a baseball league for kids coming in August and September.
