Cancer charity founder riding accross Ontario in 100 days
News Release

(Rainy River – July 23, 2008) – Defeating cancer is just the first challenge in a long journey for cancer patients. In many cases, patients are able to overcome their difficult treatment only to begin a lengthy process of rebuilding their lives – emotional and physical.
Starting June 10, 2008, and continuing for one-hundred days, Dee Miller, Founder and Executive Director of Renewed Strength – a Registered Charity in Ontario, which was founded in 2004 to fill the gap for cancer patients that no longer qualify for specialized strength and mobility care – will ride her bike more than seven thousand kilometers around Ontario to raise awareness and funds for all the free programs offered to cancer survivors.
Dee will be in Rainy River on July 30, 2008 and invite you to be a part of the 100-Day Bike Ride around Ontario by showing your support and signing the survivorship t-shirt as well as meeting cancer survivors in your community.
“Just imagine you or a loved one being diagnosed with cancer, fighting through the treatment, becoming a Survivor, only to return home without the strength or knowledge of how to start one’s physical and mental road to recovery,” says Miller.
In addition to raising much-needed funds for cancer programs, Renewed Strength is beginning the very exciting “100-Day Fitness Challenge” to all Ontarians. This Challenge will provide individuals who wish to help in the fight against cancer not only the ability to help cancer survivors, but also to increase their physical well being while becoming part of a supportive community. Over 80% of donations are spent providing programs to cancer survivors.
“Statistics show that a growing number of cancer patients survive only to face a variety of new needs; many of which are not being met. It is my goal to have specialized programs that provide professional guidance and assistance in every community,” says Miller.
Princess Margaret Hospitals’ Caring Voices (www.CaringVoices.ca), an online community of support for cancer survivors with online access to current education resources, peer support, and advice and education from health care and community experts, has joined to promote awareness of the 100-day ride. Miller will be moderating a daily chat at each stop along the way to inform the public of her progress as well as the many participants who are testing themselves with their own 100-Day Fitness Challenges.
