Hazy skies a result of far away fires
News Release
MNR
Fire managers across the West Fire Region, particularly in the Fort Frances, Kenora, Red Lake, Dryden and Sioux Lookout Districts, are reporting numerous calls to their fire offices and on the regional forest fire reporting number as a result of a smoke haze that has drifted into the region from the western provinces. The haze is from large fires in northern Saskatchewan and the Northwest Territories.
Currently no new fires have been reported in the West Fire Region today and the fire hazard across the central and northern portions of the region are listed as low to moderate. The fire hazard is high in the southern portions of the region, stretching along the Canada - U.S. border in the districts of Fort Frances and Thunder Bay.
Forest fires can be reported to the forest fire reporting number at 1-888-284-3473 but please be advised that this number is for fire reporting only, not general inquiries.
