Fun had by all in Bergland

The weather cooperated for the fifth year in a row as the annual Bergland Family Fun Day was held this past Sunday.
Kids enjoyed several games including the always popular minnow races and were able to tour the Lake of the Woods Fire Department’s fire truck.
While many of the activities were held at McCrossen-Tovell School last year, the bulk of them were held next to the Bergland Café this year. Sun shelters were set up and welcomed as those attending the event sought to get out of the hot sun.
Members of Hwy. 621 entertained the audience along with guest musicians and vocalists.
All afternoon Stacy Kreger, a local stylist, gave hair cuts and donated proceeds to the Canadian Cancer Society. Harry Arnould of Rainy River did the full deal, getting his head completely shaved. When he arrived in Bergland he had $330 in pledges from Rainy River and while there raised another $225 for $555 in total. All going the Canadian Cancer Society.
A walk/run a-thon for Cancer was also held with $440 being taken in. $250 of that was raised in an hour by the Fraser girls; well known local runners.
Jodi Jolicouer of Bergland Café cooked and sold her famous bologna burgers and donated some of the proceeds to the Cancer Society as well.
In total $2,159.47 was raised through all the various activities held that day.
A balloon release was held at the end of the day in memory of cancer victims.
Sherri Kreger was crowned chili champ this year at the annual Bergland Chili Cookoff. She received the coveted chili necklace and a 2008 Chili Champ Apron.
The Bunnock Game was on display and was again something many people were curious about. It is similar in nature to horseshoes but played with pieces called bones.
All in all it was a relaxing afternoon that culminated with a community dinner... with the menu being... you guessed it chili!
