It’s back to school time again! As children and youth head back to class, celebrate Breakfast for Learning Month - a national effort to spotlight the importance of child nutrition and its vital link to learning.
Studies show that well-nourished students have improved memory, problem-solving skills and creative abilities – overall, they perform better in school. Yet 31% of elementary school and 62% of secondary school students do not eat breakfast daily.
“This Breakfast for Learning Month, we encourage Canadians to help raise awareness and support for student nutrition programs across the country,” says Wendy Wong, President & CEO, Breakfast for Learning. “Proper nutrition is a critical component to healthy development. Nutrient-rich, balanced meals and snacks will help ensure students have the energy they need to stay alert and engaged throughout the school day.”
Join student nutrition programs across Canada by championing community events to raise funds for local breakfast, lunch and snack programs, and educate children and youth about healthy food choices.
“With one in eight children in Canada living below the poverty line, hectic weekdays and rising food costs, ensuring children and youth are well-nourished can be challenging,” continues Wong. “This Breakfast for Learning Month, help make child nutrition a priority. Promote healthy eating and support local student nutrition programs. By feeding stomachs, we are also nourishing minds and investing into a bright future for Canada’s children and youth.”
