Deb Taggart has landed her first permanent teaching job in Rainy River.
The elementary school teacher is now working at Riverview School in her third year of her career, having done contract positions prior at Nestor Falls and in Fort Frances.
The Sault Ste. Marie native moved to Fort Frances about five years ago after her sister told her about an opportunity to get her teaching degree from Queens University via Seven Generations Education Institute in Fort.
“I had a degree in Communication Studies from University of Windsor and this seemed like a good opportunity,” said Taggart. Little did she know but the move to Fort Frances would open several doors to opportunities for her. It was there she met her husband to be, whom she married over the summer.
At Riverview she is teaching Primary Prep. That entails teaching various subjects to grades jr. kindergarten up to grade 2. They include math, gym/health, science and social studies.
“I love it here. The kids are great. The staff has been very helpful and welcoming and it is a nice country atmosphere here at the school.”
Outside of school she and her husband love to go hiking, go on long walks and watching movies. They live in Fort Frances and she commutes daily to Rainy River.
