The Rainy River Owls, what are we up to?
Well to start off, we are having a great year so far. Our Jr. Girls Basketball team with their coach, Rebecca Tolen, is now sitting with seven wins and zero losses. With many new girls and great grade tens for support this season looks to be promising for this young team.
The Sr. Girls and their coach, Mike Bartlett are not far behind the Jr. Girls’ record, with six wins and one loss.
The Jr. Boys’ volleyball team and new coach and athletic director, Nicole Armstrong is currently sitting with three wins and six losses.
Finally our Sr. Boys’ volley ball team and their coach Paula Clifford are presently sitting with two wins and four losses. All of our sports teams will be hitting the courts on Thursday, October 16, 2008, when we receive a visit from Atikokan and then will travel Monday and Tuesday to Red Lake and Kenora.
Student Council has been busy organizing Halloween dance for students of RRHS, on the 24th of October. The dance will begin at 8:00pm and run through until 11:00pm. They are also planning on having a Haunted house on Halloween night, in the high school gym.
Brick-by-Brick is still active within the High School. On Tuesday October, 7th as they received an award of Excellence, from the Board of Education, for their work and efforts in building a school in Sierra Leone, Africa. “We were really honored that we were recognized for our efforts, we never expected it because it was never about us, it’s about other people. We would like to thank the Board for recognizing us, it meant a lot!” stated Deidre Wilson, president of Brick-by-Brick. They are currently investigating the Attawapiskat issue, they plan to have letters sent to our MP and have petitions made up.
Our Owls should be happy to know that our EFR’s (emergency first responders) are now in place at school: Kalli Fuhrer, Deidre Wilson, Alexis Sharp and Jessie Bourre. Training for new EFR’s will begin soon.
Drama club is now meeting every Monday night after school, playing fun, energetic drama games to get ready for their upcoming play. They are happy to be getting so many new faces as the grade nines give it a try. It makes it so much more fun with all the new people.
They are also fundraising for their production in May called; "Romeo and Juliette with a twist." The play will without doubt be a great show to come out and watch.
So come out and support our owls in sports, drama and all of our activities.
