Several groups will be getting together on November 26th to celebrate accomplishments in 2008.
Rainy River and District Chamber of Commerce members will be joined at their annual Christmas party by several committees of the Town of Rainy River, including the Economic Development, Beautification and Recreation committees.
Rainy River Community Coordinator/Economic Development Officer Anthony Mason, has also secured Simone Chisholm of Contact North to be the guest speaker. Chisholm plans to talk about the importance of customer service.
After two decades in corporate management Simone Chisholm has learned from working and watching the best and the worst. “Failing to plan is the single most reason why businesses do not succeed.” Over the past 15 years she has lived in Northern Ontario, in what has been described as the perfect storm in economic development. “I applaud the persistent determination of all northerners who refuse to give up in their quest in sustaining their communities, their businesses and their way of life.”
Born in Windsor and raised in small town Southern Ontario she moved north with her family and completed her third degree in 2000. Her business background includes an eclectic cross-section of industries and job titles from fast food to education. For the last 8 years she has been working in business development including marketing and economic development. Simone lives in Sudbury, Ontario with her husband and two children.
Mason hopes that the committee reports from the Town will help give local businesses some reassurance that the community will be here for years to come. “We will show the businesses what we have done (in the past year),” said Mason.
There are only 160 tickets available and they are on sale this week at Quality Bakery and the Rainy River Post Office. A roast beef dinner will be served and anyone wanting to attend is welcome.
Rainy River Future Development Economic Development Officer Geoff Gillon is also expected to be on hand and be speaking to the audience.
