Riverview girls bring home silver from volleyball regionals
By Mark Jodoin

Over the weekend, the Riverview boy’s and girl’s volleyball teams took part in the season’s final tournament. The Regional Championships took place at Fort Frances High School on November 22. The tournament involved 12 girl’s teams and 10 boy’s teams from the district.
Although a couple of key players from the Riverview boy’s team were unable to take part, the team still did well. They ended the day with 2 wins, but were unable to make the playoff round.
The girl’s team played excellent volleyball throughout the day and ended their round robin play with a perfect 5 – 0 record. The team went into the playoff round knowing they would have their work cut out for them playing against St. Francis from Fort Frances. St. Francis had beat Riverview 2 games out of the 3 previous meetings, but the Riverview girls continued their winning streak with a 25-17 win. In the finals, the girls met an excellent team from Mine Center who saved their best play for the finals. Although the games were close, Mine Center was not to be outdone and took the gold, leaving Riverview with a well-deserved second place finish. Besides the silver medals the team also brought home a trophy for being voted the most Sportsmanship team by the referees. Although disappointed, the girls can be very proud of how they represented Riverview over the weekend.
