O.P.P. checking for drunk drivers
From the O.P.P.
The Rainy River District OPP officers are continuing the Festive RIDE Program. The OPP annual province-wide Festive Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) campaign is in effect from November 28, 2008 to January 2, 2009. To date, the Rainy River District OPP officers have checked over 3500 vehicles in checkstop locations throughout the District. Officers have checked 20 motorized snow vehicles. There have been over 98 hours dedicated to RIDE programs.
Three drivers have been issued 12 hour suspensions and 8 drivers have been charged with provincial offences. Three snowmobile operators have been warned for documentation violations.
Police are reminding motorists to plan ahead. Reduce your risk of being involved in a motor vehicle collision. If you drink, do not drive. Officers will continue to be vigilant in reducing the number of impaired drivers using roads and snowmobile trails. RIDE programs will continue through the festive season and officers will be conducting RIDE checkstops on roadways and snowmobile trails.
Arrive alive, don’t drink and drive.
